Meeting: Porronggitj Karrong Reserve

Porronggitj Karrong, meaning “Place of the Brolga”, sits on the banks of the Barre Warre Yaluk – The great river that runs from the mountains to the sea, a Cultural landscape that has been the lifeblood of Wadawurrung Country for thousands of years.
Wadawurrung Traditional Owners and Barwon Water are working together to restore Porronggitj Karrong through a “Listening to Country” approach. Once a thriving saltmarsh wetland and bio-Cultural landscape, rich in resources for Wadawurrung people, Porronggitj Karrong has experienced significant ecological and Cultural disruption following colonisation and modification of the river system.
The talk will explore the journey from project establishment right through to where we are now as we dive into the “Reimagining the Landscape” phase of the Porronggitj Karrong program.
Project Leads, Greg Robinson and Saxon Bartlett will present this story from both a Cultural and professional perspective. They work at the intersection of Traditional Owner knowledge and western water and land management, supporting projects that enable self-determination, Cultural practice and restoration of landscapes across Wadawurrung Country and the Barwon region.
Visitors are welcome.
