Bird Group Excursion: The Old Place near Brisbane Ranges National Park

This excursion is being held on private property in the Brisbane Ranges on what was formerly the ‘Boardman Property’. It is a fascinating area and we expect to see many woodland birds including Scarlet Robins, Buff-rumped Thornbills, numerous honeyeater species and many more. Local expert Annette Rypalski will be our host.
After meeting inside the entry gate to the property, we will drive a short distance to the starting point of our excursion. N.B. Please be punctual as we will drive as one group into the property out of sight of the entrance.
Initially we will walk a 1.5km return track down a dry gully through woodland vegetation to a dam, then return to our cars for a short morning tea break.
After morning tea, we will walk a circuit track measuring approximately 2.5 km. The track begins with a steepish descent into a gully. Some people may wish to bring walking poles to assist on this section of the track. The remainder of this circuit has some gentle undulation before returning to the ridge.
We plan to return to our cars for lunch between 12.30 and 1pm.
If you are coming from Geelong on the Geelong-Ballan Road, turn left onto Butchers Road. The entry gate is on the left approximately 600m down Butchers Road.
Bring: Appropriate clothing for the forecast weather conditions, binoculars, morning tea and lunch, drinks, snacks, hat, sunscreen, walking poles(optional) and good walking shoes. Also bring a folding chair if you are staying for morning tea and or lunch.
Note: Phytophthora is present at this site. We will use the GFNC Phytophthora kits to avoid the spread of this plant disease.
There are no toilets onsite. The closest public toilets are at Anakie Reserve in De Motts Road, Anakie
Visitors are welcome.
