Meeting: The Old Place Canopy Project

Tuesday 6 October @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Eastern Spinebill

Annette Rypalski will give a talk on this exciting plan for what was the “Boardman Property” adjacent to the Brisbane Ranges National park.

Building on experience using fenced sanctuaries to remove key threats and enable threatened species recovery, The Old Place Canopy Project explores how those principles can be applied at a broader landscape scale beyond the fence. The focus is on understanding the multiple pressures affecting a species, identifying which threats are most influential and determining where targeted intervention could deliver the greatest recovery benefit. Rather than attempting to address every threat, the approach considers whether strategically tackling a small number of key constraints, such as habitat fragmentation, altered fire regimes, climate impacts, resource limitation or predation, can shift species trajectories from decline towards medium/long-term persistence. The concept is to develop scalable, targeted landscape interventions that can simultaneously benefit multiple species and rebuild biodiversity beyond isolated protected populations.

Visitors are welcome.
