Bird Group Excursion: Dans Nature Reserve and Rice Nature Reserve

Thursday 22 October @ 8:45 am - 1:00 pm
Blue-winged Parrot

Meet at 8.45 for a 9.00am start at Rice Nature Reserve, located on the banks of the Thompson Creek on Horseshoe Bend Rd, Mt Duneed.

Club members, Troy Zanker & Karyn Brown, will be our local experts as they know both locations well.

Rice Nature Reserve has 154 bird species in eBird including Blue-winged Parrots that may be nesting at this time of the year.

After exploring this reserve, we will have morning tea and then make our way by car to Dans Nature Reserve some 3km to the NE.

Dans Nature Reserve is located further downstream on Thompson Creek. Plantings of native grasses here provide good habitat for small birds such as Red-browed Finches.

After a picnic lunch we will finish at about 1pm.

There are no toilet facilities at either reserve.

Bring appropriate clothing for all types of weather, binoculars, tea/coffee, water, lunch and snacks, hat, sunscreen, suitable footwear and a chair.

A defibrillator and first aid kit will be carried by a volunteer. Geelong Hospital is 17km north of our locales. Geelong is easily reached by the Surf Coast Hwy.

Visitors are welcome.
