Geelong Field Naturalists Club
Starting point is the Fyansford Common, (toilets available). From here we will walk under the Fyansford Monier Arch Bridge, up a short hill and along "The Parade" for 500 metres or so looking into the trees by the Moorabool River. We will observe at the concrete path for 10-15 minutes. We will then make our way back to the bridge, walking over it to the other side of the Moorabool River until it joins the Barwon walking the red gum pathway. We will then follow this path for approximately 30 minutes , spending some time with quiet observation at Red Gum Island. We will continue on to take the Barwon Aqueduct river trail until we meet the intersection of the Moorabool and Barwon River. (depending on time) We will then return to the carpark via Red Gum Island.
At approximately 10.30am we will drive to Balyang Sanctuary entering via Marnock Rd , Newtown to enjoy morning tea (toilets available). We will explore the Sanctuary for about 45 minutes. We will then head on the path towards Queens Park and check out the canoe launching area and walk as far as the King Lloyd Reserve before returning for Lunch.
After lunch, some may like to explore other areas of the Sanctuary, or walk further along the Barwon River. Finishing time will be 1-1.30pm.
Meet at 8.45 am to sign in to start by 9 am at the carpark directly after the Fyansford Hotel if coming from Geelong
Bring a chair, binoculars, morning tea, lunch and good walking shoes. Please come appropriately dressed for the weather conditions.
